In English classes during the first week of school, I do a lot of evaluating to find out the level of English each kid already has. It is so helpful to get a feel for what each student knows, but the added bonus is that it is always hilarious. Here are a few examples of conversations I had this week:
Me: What is your favorite book?
Student: erm....Facebook!
Me: What is your favorite book?
Student: Hmmmm. Well, right now I am having to read this really big book for class, so I don't have time to read any others.
Me: What book?
Student: That really huge one.
Me: The Bible?
Student: Yeah! That's it!
Me: You know you don't have to read the whole thing this week, right?
Student: Really?
Me: What is your favorite book?
Student: What?
Me: Like, my favorite book is Harry Potter.
Student: Ooooo, okay. The Bible, of course!
Me: (hang head in shame)
