A Cake Made Entirely of Diapers

Today I went to a baby shower for Jenny. Lindsey, Amy J. and I decided to make a diaper cake for our gift. I have to admit, after reading the directions and seeing pictures, I doubted our ability to make it happen, and we were SO GLAD none of us attempted this little project on our own. But, with 6 hands working together, it was relatively simple, and we were very excited with the finished product.

It became slightly comical last night when we realized we needed a wooden dowel to stick through all the layers to finish the assembly of the cake. Of course, we couldn't find a ruler nearby to measure the length we would need it to be, so I took off my necklace and used it to measure the height of the cake. I really got some stares at the Lumber section in Lowe's when I showed the guy where to cut a dowel using the necklace and then informed him I would be using it to put together a cake of diapers.

Yes, I think that was quite handy of you. The Lowe's dude was just jealous of your resourcefulness.

Congrats, Bloggershy!

And the cake turned out well. I had one of those with Patrick and LOVED it. Of course, I loved taking it apart and using the diapers even more.

DIAPER CAKES RULE! i must say, it is a work of art. i'm not sure if i should take it apart or leave it in the center of our coffee table, where it is now, on display for all to see. and the closer i look, the more amazing details i see. the slippers! the baby wash! the mittens! i love it. it was the highlight of the gift-giving jamboree.
and mandy, the comments on the gift list are hilarious. i've been sitting on the couch reading them over & over & giggling. emmett keeps saying 'what is so funny about that list?' ahhh. love it. for example, for our viewers out there, a girl gave me sippy cups. mandy put 'sippy cups (put alcohol in these)' done! one for me, one for baby. : )
and it's a little girl, due april 10th. but if she's still breeched, the doc might schedule a c-section for 39th week, which is a mere 3 weeks away. good grief!
anyways, here's to the diaper cake. LOVE IT.

Thanks, girls, for backing me up on the resourceful use of a necklace for measuring. We felt it worked very well!

Glad to be of service, J Lo!!!

Great improvisation, Mandy! I've seen several of the diaper cakes, and you and your friends did a super job. Love the ribbon, too! I'm sure the Lowe's dude thought the bead-thing was cute.

I will second that Ms. Katie. The cake was way cool, and I am sure I couldn't do it, but give us a new post before spring break.
