This past Friday, I ate lunch at a quaint little Italian restaurant near one of the day camps I had just visited. I went with several co-workers, and we were talking while we should have been looking at the menu, so my ordering was a bit hasty. I scanned the menu and saw a salad that looked pretty tasty. The name was Italian, but the description mentioned shrimp and scallops and ...something. As I said, I scanned. BIG MISTAKE. When my salad arrived, there were numerous octopods on the salad. Little guys. Looked like they had just been caught, whacked on the head and scattered on my salad for decoration.I tried to be all mature, because I did order the salad, and I didn't actually read the description. (Which, by the way, upon my closer investigation also included calamari. Calamari is something I can eat when fried, but only fried. I am southern...we can eat anything fried. Except maybe octopus.) Deep down, though, I really wanted to fling those little octopods so far across the room it would have caused a food fight of epic proportions. I am still a little nauseous thinking about them. All those little legs with their little suckers waving at me...ew.

GROSS MAN!
They weren't still alive, they were just steamed and chilled or something, so they looked just like something you would see crawling along the ocean floor. Disgusting. Ew. Sick. And, no, I did not eat them. I stared at them for a LONG time, then picked them up with my fork and removed them from the premesis. Onto my bread plate.
MMMMM !!! They are wonderful with olive oil and garlic !! Yum-Yum. Calamari is without a doubt, one of the things I loved about living in Italy !! And Mandy - remind me to give you the recipe for pasta sauce made from sea urchins !!
Big Brother
Could you even eat fried grasshoppers? Ray and Yolanda couldn't! Ha! (They WERE grasshoppers, weren't they?)
ROTFL!!!!!
Oh my GRANDMA!!! So did you just eat around them or order something else? I'm with the rest of the crew (except your brother) Don't think I would of eaten them.
Wait JUST a minute! Did Pamela just say she THINKS she wouldn't have eaten them! I have news for you. I KNOW she wouldn't have. Not after scouring Italian cities everywhere for a restaurant that had "spaghetti al ragu" before we could eat dinner!
I'm still thinking about them...can't get them out of my head...little legs all entertwined with my lettuce. EWWWWW....thanks for commiserating with me, everyone. Except you, big bro. I'll pass on the sea urchin pasta...thanks!
Rolling on the floor laughing... I will get on that post, Katie! Today is the LAST DAY of day camp (hurrah! hurrah!) so life will be good again soon.
