Ahh, hydrocodone. Now that's the stuff that can make you smile.
So, took a little blog-break for a quick appendectomy. Fun times. Overall the experience hasn't been too terrible, although at the moment I am trying to recover from reading a little short story by BertDude that had me laughing so hard I thought I might bust right through the glue they have holding me together.
I have had a lot of time to watch the news of the devastation in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. So many of the scenes are unbelievable. People walking around with machine guns and looting stores and the homes of their fellow citizens. Thousands and thousands without homes. It is just not something we usually experience in this country. These are scenes that come from the war torn regions of the Middle East or Africa. I don't even know what to think or feel about the situation. I see so many who have no hope and I again realize how true it is that our hope cannot be in the things of this earth. Our only hope is in Christ.
Psalm 46
God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Come and see the works of the LORD, the desolations he has brought on the earth. He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear, he burns the shields with fire. Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.
The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
