gIrL wOrLd!

August 27, 2005

I have spent two days surrounding myself with the world of the teen girl. Wait, to be more accurate, I hAvE sPeNt TwO dAyS sUrRoUnDiNg MySeLf WiTh ThE wOrLd Of ThE TeEn GiRl!!! Hence watching Mean Girls, listening to angry girl music, joining Xanga, and even going as far as purchasing a new black sequin scarf. I actually wanted the scarf, but I am blaming it on my project.

The project stems from work. I have had several conversations over the course of a few days that have led me to believe that some of my co-workers and volunteers have become removed from "Girl World." (Co-worker: My daughter doesn't talk to me anymore. Mandy: Does she blog? You could find out a lot about what is going on with her if you can find her website. Co-worker: Does she what?) As a girl-serving organization, that is not a world we need to be removed from. So, I had the brilliant idea to immerse myself in their world, develop a training, then have a little fun shocking the heck out of some moms in a few months. Because, in my two days of living like a teen, I have to say, I have been pretty shocked. High school has certainly changed in the past 13 years.

So, the project continues, and I find myself becoming more immature every hour. I think I will sign off, go paint my nails some ridiculous shade of blue or purple and read some Seventeen magazines. Oh, and Willa, sign me up for the tattoo. And maybe a piercing or two.
