Día de los Reyes

So, I guess I threw in the towel on the December Photo Project.  My second week of vacation in the States was super busy, and I just never got around to taking any more pictures.

January 6, the twelfth day of Christmas, is know in Mexico as Día de los Reyes, The Day of Kings.  Traditionally, this is celebrated as the day that the wise men visited Jesus, bringing him gifts.  The morning of January 6, kids receive gifts and family and friends gather to share rosca de reyes (king cake.)  Several plastic babies are baked into the cake, and the people that get the babies have to bring tamales to the next big celebration.  I shared rosca in two different celebrations, and got a baby in one.  Time to find a good tamale stand!
