When I first moved to Mexico, I lived in an apartment rented to me by a parent of one of my students. It was a great place to live, and a blessing for sure. Over the past three years, though, I have also been blessed by a family that who has taken me in like one of their own, and when they moved to a new house this summer, they invited me to live with them. I now share a home with a family of five, Sky and Lola the screaming parrots, and Lazy the dog.

Lazy, the lazy Siberian Husky that lives in the tropics, can usually be found near a fan. She pretty much spends her days doing nothing, then at night, when the temperatures dip into the 70s, she finds the energy to run around in the garden, digging and making mischief of one kind or another. At midnight one night last week, we heard Lazy barking outside, so we went to check on her. She was "playing" with a giant, ugly, warty toad that had made its way into the garden. The toad was very near death, and Lazy was very excited about her new squeaky toy. As I helped pull her away from biting and licking the toad, she decided the time was just right to give me a nice sloppy lick from my chin to my forehead, covering me in dog slobber and toad germs. The end.
