Sparklers and Cake and Fireworks, Oh My!

Last night my hometown had its big Independence Day celebration. What can I say--we have always been a little advanced (ha!) My brother and sister-in-law live in a place that is perfectly situated to view the fireworks, so they hosted a cookout.

My nephews were SO excited! They love parties!
Logan had sparklers going all night, and Gage loved the cake!

A little later we got ready for the big show with more sparklers
(Like the Tony Stewart hat? Nothing says freedom like Nascar!)

Gage was a little irritated that he didn't get to hold his own sparkler. He conned one off his Uncle Chris once (I am not sure how I survived childhood with those four big brothers of mine...) then decided to take matters into his own hands and go through all the boxes looking for his own. What a little pyro!

Fun times!

"Nothing says freedom like Nascar". A classic line!

Oh yeah...there is something intrinsically (sp?) wrong about fireworks on June 30.

Hey hey hey! Looks like fun. Unfortunately, I'm in NY surrounded by a bunch of Canadians. I probably won't even get to see fireworks, much less have it acknowledged. And without a TV, I won't even see them on TV! (Pity yet, anyone?) Some July 4th. (Once again, training in the ultimate sense. Like I'll have them in Africa. Just add it to the list of how I'm being trained: no air, dirty water, sketchy cell service, and no July 4th!

ahh, yes, the joys of passing on the pyro fixation to the younger generation.... keep it alive. perhaps that is why the 4th of July is my favorite holiday... lots of fire and things exploding. hmmm.

Joanna, girl, you are tryin' to spread some crazy rumors around ole CVPC :)

Shannon, yes, I mourn for you. No fireworks? That's just wrong. But, you will get to live in a pretty nice place, so I am not sure my sympathy will be long-lived!

Katie, you are so sweet. I personally believe their aunt is responsible for their cuteness, of course.

And Becky, yes, it is wrong to have fireworks on June 30. Of course here in Rome we had them tonight--July 1. I have no idea where they will actually be on July 4. Regardless, I will wear some Nascar clothes (in support of freedom) and find some!

They're having them at the Braves game on the 4th. I guess that's why the Parks and Recreation does it on the 1st--no competition. Still starnge, but at least it's July!

Shannon--I read in Better Homes and Gardens that the traditional 4th of July meal in New England is salmon and peas. YUCK! Poor them!
