While I appreciate New Orleans wanting to get back to normal, I have to question blowing the $2.7 million necessary for the clean-up and extra policing to have a parade they feel they must have in order to do so. Maybe use some of that money to buy the citizens of your fine city some lovely gift cards to Home Depot. I am no stranger to the idea of spending money to lift your spirits. But when it comes to my personal budget, I realize that I must take care of basic needs before indulging in a little retail therapy. Just common sense. Or maybe it's the TheraFlu talking.
And, while I am making a million enemies, can I just add that in this country, the government is not responsible for every aspect of its citizens' lives. If you want that, maybe you would be interested in moving to a country with a socialist government.

I find myself wondering just how long those affected by the hurricane will continue to live in hotels and on the cruise ships with the government paying for it. I don't think it's unreasonable for the government to start nudging them back out into the world to stand on their own feet.
